George Harris, Sr. married Margaret Ellen Meece July 25, 1843 in Alcorn County, Mississippi.
George Harris, Sr. (born about 1813 in Tennessee) and Margaret Harris (born about 1830 in Tennessee) were living in Hunt County, Texas in 1860.
George, Sr. and Margaret were in Hunt County Texas in 1870. George, Jr. had married Mary Akin in 1869 in Hunt County and were living next door to his parents.
In 1880, Margaret was widowed and living in Collin County, Texas. Four of her children were still living at home.
1900 San Saba census, M. E. Harris (mother-in-law, age 74, Sept 1825) was living with George and Jane (Harris) Wigley.
1910 census, Margaret Harris (mother, age 84) was living in Eastland County, Texas with son, George and family.
I have not located George and Mary in 1920.
George F. Harris (1846-1929, buried at Coleman) was a son of George F. Harris Sr. (abt 1816-bef 1880) and Margaret Ellen Meace (1825-aft 1910). He was in the same places as his parents in most censuses.
When he applied for a confederate pension in 1925, he was farming and stated he had lived in Coleman County for 10 years. His post office was at Leaday, Texas in Coleman County, which is very near Hill Cemetery. When his wife, Mary, applied for a widow's pension in 1929, she was living with a daughter at Millerview, which is in Concho County, but near Leaday and Hill Cemetery. These locations shows that it is very probable that the Margaret Harris (1825-1916) buried at Hill Cemetery is the mother of George F. Harris, as George was living in this area by 1915.

"George Harris was the son of Dr. George F. Harris Sr. (abt 1816-bef 1880) and Margaret Ellen Meace (1825-aft 1910), according to his grand-daughter Velma Holmes Bozeman, he came from Alabama and was part Indian and German or Dutch. He was a construction worker and operated a grist flour mill. His grandson Carey W. Holmes said he was an ammunition wagon driver in the Confederate Army at 14 (he was actually 16). CSA records show he served between 8 Jul 1862 and May 1863 in Co. D. Hefner's 2nd Cavalry, Texas State Troops and he received a pension in 1925. In 1929 his widow Mary Caroline Akins Harris applied for and was granted a widow's pension. George was known as a prankster and lived alone after the death of his wife in an old log cabin for many years. His grand-kids really liked to visit him.
