Son of Thomas and Anna Harner McCorkel.

Joseph McCorkel's father Thomas McCorkel died 11/27/1847 in Philadelphia, PA (when Joseph was one year old) due to a hot coal lodging in his boot and the complications resulted in his death. He was a blacksmith. Joseph's mother later remarried Barnett van Sciver and moved to Ohio and Lake Co, IN where they were living in 1860 in Crown Point, IN.*

Anna later had a son with her second husband named William Vanscriver born 1854 NJ, a half-brother to Joseph McCorkel.

Joseph McCorkel was in the Civil War.

Husband of Lois Letetia Cole McCorkel 1850-1936 MI, married in 1868.

They had 10 children: David, Alex F, Ada Hadenfelt, William, Harry, Lee/Leo, Thomas, Ann Kitchel of Allegan Co, MI 1937, Ethel 1898-1919 MI and A.J.

Joseph and Lois moved to Michigan in 1909.

J. T. McCorkel received a dispatch Saturday that his [step]father was dead; himself and family attended the funeral which was held at the Salem church, conducted by Rev. Smith, and remains were interred at the above named place. Deceased was 67 years of age, has been a resident of Lake county [Indiana] 35 years, was a native of New York.
