William B. McCorkle, 87, Michigan City, died Friday in Doctors Hospital, Michigan City after a long illness.
He lived in the McCool area until 10 years ago. Born at Woodville, Ind. Feb 9, 1871, he was the son of Joe and Lois (Cole) McCorkle. He married Ida Marshall Jan 1, 1891. She died Sept 2, 1956.
He worked for the Gary Transit Company for 25 years. He retired 30 years ago.
Services will be held at 1:30 pm Monday at Carlisle Funeral home, Michigan City, and burial will be in McCool cemetery.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Clara Cowgill of LaPorte, Mrs. Ida Cowgill of Michigan City, Mrs. Anna Herbsled of Rayersford, Pa., Mrs. Bessie Konjak of Gary and Mrs. Lillian Bonhom of McCool; six sons, William McCorkle of Santa Rosa, Calif., Joseph of Tampa, Fla.; Harvey of Cincinnati; George and Bern of Gary and Melvin of McCool; two brothers, Alex of Chesterton and Leo of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. John Hadenfildt of Chesterton; 28 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
