He was the son of Daniel Everett Roby, Sr. (1877-1954) and his wife Anna Lillian, nee Mattingly (1891-1989).
His May 23, 1971 Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer obituary:
Richard Spalding (Dick) Roby, 43, of 522 Bolivar St. died at 9 a.m. Saturday at his residence. He had been employed at General Electric for 20 years.
Born in Owensboro on Oct. 14, 1927, he had lived in Owensboro all his life and was a member of SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include three daughters; Mrs. Rebecca Clark of Louisville, Miss Karen and Miss Sally Roby, both at home; four sons, Richard S. Jr., Michael, Patrick and Donald Roby, all of Owensboro; two grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Leah Roby of Owensboro, and three brothers, Sam, William and Leon Roby, all of Owensboro.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church by the Rev. Robert Willett of St. Stephen's Cathedral and the Rev. Delma Clemons. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
The body is at the Haley-McGinnis and Owensboro Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. today.
