Shot Dead in his Tracks!
Mr. T.T. Mixon, of Johnson county discovered that his meat had been mysteriously disappearing for some time from his smoke house. So on last Sunday morning a week ago, when just before day he was roused by the barking of his dog, he rose and looked out toward the smoke house. Thinking he saw someone enter the house, he took down his gun and walked out. As he neared the door an old negro man, named Ephraim Snell ("Long Eph") came out with a supply of groceries on his back, whereupon Mr. Mixon shot him dead on the spot.

The above census of 1910, shows you and Martha were in the household of your daughter (Fannie Mixon Rowland, born about 1879) & her husband John. It's apparent that 'Fannie' is one of the daughters born before the 1880 census...

You would have been absolutely proud of your son John Cornelius Mixon after he left Georgia as a young man & later made his home in Jasper, Jasper Co. Texas. His son Thomas Martel Mixon served in World War II and was a former Sheriff of Jasper County, Tx., and Arthur Kelly Mixon served in the Korean War.

He was proof of your pride, dignity and good morals that you obviously gave to him. It is with joy I say to the world that those gifts were also given to me as his grandson. My happiness has been justified as I create this memorial for you..... Charles T. Baggett
