Ruth Joy, 93, Hays, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at St. John's Health Care Center, Hays.
She was born Aug. 23, 1917, in rural Smith County to Charles and Mary (Muck) Angell.
She married Arthur C. Joy in June 1942. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1978. She was a registered nurse at Boeing during World War II, at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays for many years, and was a nurse at the Fort Hays State University Student Health Center until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Michael Episcopal Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Garden Club, Registered Nurses Club, Senior Companion Program and Red Cross Board. She volunteered at the Community Assistance Center, Camp PECUSA and Dream Camp. She served on the election board at elections in Ellis County.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas and Charles Joy, both of Hays; two daughters, Janice Bunker, Hays, and Marianne Neill and husband, Michael, Houston; a sister, Doris Osborne, Denver; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by eight siblings.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Episcopal Church, Hays; burial in Mount Allen Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. Monday until time of service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
