Services for James Albert Fishback, 69, of Ely, east of Monroe City, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 1978 at the First Baptist Church of Monroe City. Burial will be in the Forrest Grove Cemetery in Canton. The Rev. J.D. Stewart and Rev. Marvin Pitney will officiate. Mr. Fishback died at 9:55 a.m. Sunday, June June 18, 1978 at Levering Hospital in Hannibal. He was born April 25, 1909 in Lewis County to John Henry and Martha Virginia Murphy Fishback. He was married October 26, 1935 to Mary Jo Gruber in Lewis County. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Gary A. Fishback, Hannibal; three daughters, Mrs. Rennolds Potterfield, Monroe City; Mrs. Richard Franklin, Independence; Mrs. John Freeman, Fenton, Michigan; two sisters, Mrs. Karl Schork and Mrs. Robert Johnson, both of Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin and Franklin; and one sister, Mrs. Hettie Johnson. Mr. Fishback attended the Derrahhs and Monticello schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Monroe City where he was a deacon and a member of the mens Bible class. He was a carpenter and farmer of Ely and the Monroe City area for many years. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday at Garner Funeral Chapel then at the church. Pallbearers include Phillip Potterfield, Dan Freeman, Jamie Franklin, Jeff Fishback, Mike Fishback and Andy Fishback. Deacons will be honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church and left with the Garner Funeral Home.
