Born September 8, 1928 in Timewell, Illinois,
a son of Elmer E. and Nellie Hendricks Perry, Robert married Ruth E. Vance in Mt. Sterling, Illinois on February 23, 1957; she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters:
Roberta (Dale) Johnson of Galesburg
Debra Williamson of Knoxville, Illinois
Pamela (Stuart) McNames of Baraboo, Wisconsin
Two sisters:
Betty (Charles) Gabriel of Galesburg
Marilyn Herren of Mt. Sterling
Also six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his many friends survive
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Perry.
Robert served as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy during both WWII (Dec.-1945-Sept. 1946) and the Korean War (June 1948-June 1952;
serving aboard the U.S.S. Sarasota APA 204
the U.S.S. Thomas Jefferson and
the U.S.S. Kearsarge CU 33.
While serving he toured,
Pearl Harbor, Hawaiian Islands, Guam, Phillipine Islands, Subic Bay and Manila on Luzon and Iloila on the Island of Panay, China, Shanghei and Tsingtao, Midway Island Pacific Ocean, the Panama Canal, Cuba, Japan, and Okinawa.
He was the recipient of five service medals and while serving stateside he was a private driver for the Admiral
After his military service he was a truck driver for Dohrn Transport, later driving for Burlington Truck Lines until 1985 and Admiral Corporation until retirement in 1986
After retirement, Robert drove a special education school bus for Galesburg C.U.S.D #205 for 13 years and drove the bus for the First Church of God for 5 years.
Robert had lived in Galesburg since 1952 but was raised in Timewell attending schools in the Brown County area.
He was a charter member of the American Legion Post #1059 in Timewell, a member of the Teamsters Union Local #627 and member of the First Church of God in Galesburg.
Funeral services are scheduled for 7 PM Sunday November 26, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel;
Rev Paul Bickel & Rev Don Reynolds officiating
Visitation will be 5-7 PM Sunday at the chapel.
Burial will be 11 AM Monday in Mounds Cemetery in Timewell
