The New York Times July 7, 1951: Beverly, Mass. July 6, Mrs. Ellen W. Wood, widow of William M. Wood, former president of the American Woolen Company, died today at her home in Prides Crossing. Her age was 91. Born in Lowell, Mass., Mrs. Wood was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Ayer, members of a prominent north shore family.
Surviving are a son, Cornelius Ayer Wood, and a daughter, Countess F. M. Guardabossi, both of Prides Crossing; three sisters, Mrs. George S. Patton of Hamilton, Mass., widow of General Patton; Mrs. Keith Merrill of Prides Crossing, and Mrs Conrad P. Hathaway of South Lincoln, Mass., and two brothers, Charles F. and Frederick Ayer.
