STATESBORO - Mrs. Mary Akins Williams, age 94, died Tuesday at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice after an extended illness. The longtime resident of Bulloch County taught in the public school system for 26 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Steadfast Sunday School Class and a former member of the church choir. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Kappa Delta Gamma Sorority and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry J. Akins and Ruth Holloway Akins; and her siblings, Barney Akins, Bertha Akins Fordham, Henry Erastus Akins, Mary Frances Akins and Lillian A. "Charlie" Moore.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Chester W. Williams of Statesboro; a son, Roger Williams of Guyton; one sister, Eva A. Waller of Cairo, Ga.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins; and her loving caregivers, Bonita Fisher and Delores Taylor.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 108 North Main Street; or to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.

Hodges-Moore Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
