James B. Turner, is survived by his wife, Theresa A. Turner. He is also survived by two nieces, Dyann Beaty and Cathy Wignall; a nephew, Edwin Beaty; a cousin, James Turner McNie; and a special mention dear friend, Mabel Pepper Easton. He was a graduate of Florida Southern University, Miami, Fla., graduating with highest honors of valedictorian and summa cum laude. After working with Jackson Grain Co., he established Turners Plantation Dairies in Tampa and St. Pete, FL. He was well known, not only for his dairy, but the many years spent yacht racing from the St. Pete Yacht Club, winning many trophies. Columnist Red Marston called him "Island Man" because of his love for the islands on the West Coast of Florida, having purchased several; among them Useppa Island, Seppa Island, Cabbage Key, (known as Burgess Island, their home for 15 years), Patricio Island, Indian Field (in Matalacha Harbor), and Pierre Island (in the Bahamas). Jimmy' s greatest achievement was the building and completion of the first 75-foot fiberglass yacht "Big-Toy" in 1964. At 42 years of age, "Big-Toy," under new ownership, is still a thing of beauty and completed a two-year voyage around the world. Jimmy accomplished all his goals in life and after his retirement, with his love for the sea, he spent 18 years world cruising, and several months at sea in between on cruise ships. His funeral will be private. He will be laid to rest in the mausoleum of The Gardens Memorial Park and Cemetery in Boca Raton, FL.
