Ruby Dare Pitts Stone, 90, of Fredericksburg passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born in Richmond County Oct. 25, 1916, to Leonard and Mollie Pitts. She was the widow of William Warfield Stone, to whom she was married 53 years. She was predeceased by her daughter, Alice Warfield Stone; two brothers, George Howard Pitts and Linwood Columbus Pitts; and five sisters, Grace E. Pitts, Ethel Emeline Lloyd, Florence Helen Heflin, Virginia Gladys Foster and Violet Rachel Baker. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra S. Ward and her husband, Thomas F. Ward of King George; one grandson, Medford Roger Fines Jr. and his wife, Tracey Sheilds Fines; and two great-grandchildren, Bryan William Fines and Ashley Elizabeth Fines. She also is survived by five sisters-in-law, Muriel Stone Lazear, Julia Stone Urey, Dorothy Stone Gassman, Mary Stone Weaver and Lillian Stone Williams; and one brother-in-law, John W. Stone and his wife, Nell Avery Stone. Other survivors include one very special niece, Mary Heflin Sullivan; and five nephews, Thomas Heflin, Louis Baker and his wife, Sandra, Charles Pitts and his wife, Shirley, Robert Pitts and his wife, Linda, and Oliver Pitts and his wife, Elaine. She was a member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church for over 50 years. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. J. Larry Haun will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Elsie Perry Sunday School Class, of which she was a member for many years. Mrs. Stone held a special regard for the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad and said that after she moved to the apartments next to Mary Washington Hospital, she would often hear them on life-saving missions. She always said a silent prayer for those being transported. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad in her memory. Arrangements are by Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
