Virginia V. Monger, 93

Virginia Vivian Alger Monger, 93, of 779 Florist Road, Elkton, Va., died Sunday night, March 30, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for two weeks. She was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Elkton, and was the daughter of the late William Homer and Elsie Offenbacker Alger. She was married to Floyd Weaver Monger on Aug. 10, 1935, who preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 1984.

Virginia was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, where she was a charter member of the Bethel Women's Fellowship. She was a 1934 graduate of Elkton High School, a life member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Junior Order of the United American Mechanics No. 149, a life member of the Virginia Parent Teacher Association, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Jerry Monger, Ray and Vivian Monger, all of Elkton, Larry and Judy Monger of Sandston, Va., and Philip and Mary Jane Monger of Elkton; six daughters and sons-in-law, Loyce Hensley of Elkton, Wanda "Susie" and Charlie Knicely of Dayton, Linda Monger of McGahyesville, Janet Secrist and Eddie Secrist of Elkton, Deborah and Joe Correa of Weyers Cave and Vivian and Donnie Michael of Madison. She is survived by one brother, William H. "Billy" Alger of Shenandoah. She is survived by 25 grandchildren, Warren "Jake" Hensley Jr., Greg Hensley, Susan Workman, Sharon Lewis, Jeff Hensley, Tracey Breeden, Amy Monger, Missy Knicely, Neil Monger, Mark Monger, Rhonda Long, Stephanie Monger, Wesley Monger, Karen Reeder, Michael Secrist, Shannon Secrist, Ashleigh Fulk, Bradley Monger, Joshua Monger, Bellamy Monger, Lindsey Correa, Jonathan Correa, Emily Correa, Arielle Solie, and Dennis Michael. Also surviving are 26 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jackie, Ethan and Eric Hensley, Courtney and Alex Workman, Patrick Dean, Coby and Chase Hensley, Jennifer and Jessica Moubray, Cody, Laura, Kyle, Cole and Cori Monger, Grayson Long, Jordan, Maddie, Hannah and Jackson Secrist, Tanner Fulk, Justin and Ben Monger, William Monger-Hall, and Michaela Jamrozek, and one great-great grandson, Quinton Hensley. Survivors also include numerous nieces, nephews and stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, Edith and Ruth Alger, Letha Monger, Rachel Durham, Margie Bowman and Ruby Jenkins; a son-in-law, Warren Hensley Sr.; one grandson, Brian Hensley; and two great-grandsons, Nathan Moubray and Christopher Jerrells.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel United Church of Christ, located at 2451 Bethel Church Road in Elkton with Pastor Dan Bassett officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. or at her home at any time.
