Donald Arthur Yaussi, 74, of rural Baker, died Saturday afternoon, April 30, 2011, at the Sabetha Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was a Baker, Kansas native, one of five children of Arthur and Anna Barnes Yaussi, born November 3, 1936. Don attended Baker country schools and graduated from Powhattan High School in 1955. Don married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Smith in 1956. They enjoyed working together and lived in the farm house he grew up in. Patsy survives. Also surviving are two sons Arthur (Marian) Yaussi, Alan (Connie) Yaussi, all of rural Baker; a daughter Debbie (Knute) Knudson of Hiawatha; a sister Virginia Thompson of Atchison; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Si Lomax , Ronnie Yaussi, and Roger Yaussi. He enjoyed his family and a host of friends. He loved farming and raising cattle and was so happy to have seen six generations tread the land his grandfather purchased in the 1860's after coming here from Switzerland. Don served as trustee on Mission Township for twelve years. Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Theola Carter of Horton, will officiate. Interment will follow at Powhattan Cemetery.
