John Evans Died by Oct. 7, 1850

John Evans Sr., was a prominent farmers and early settler of Fayette County Tennessee. Though John was a loving father who helped his children, up to and after their marriage, his children wanted to migrate westward. In 1847 to 1850, most of the family were in Hot Springs Valley, Hot Spring County, Arkansas. Hot Springs Valley was later to become City of Hot Springs. Their seven children were Thomas Jefferson, David, Mary E., William, Ellen, John Jr., and Robert David.
June 18, 1849 son, William Evans, signed over to his mother Deborah Evans, all the rights of ownership to a house and lot (also a two horse wagon) that lay between John C. Hale and Mrs. Williamson. This property was later involved in extensive litigation over land ownership, brought about by Mr. Hale, before he built the first bathhouse in 1854. Deborah sold this property August 1st 1850 to William A. Thomas of Shelby County, Tennessee. This property was sold several more times before litigation was settled.
John Sr. still had farm land in Fayette County, Tennessee. He had sold some of this land just before his death by October 7th 1850. His son Robert,and Robert`s mother Deborah, sisters Mrs. Ellen Cash, Mrs. Mary Rainey, brother John and sister in law, Malinda Nelson Evans, lived in or near Hot Springs Valley. Robert's brother David had died, and his widow Malinda was remarried to William Davis, May 18 1850. Robert's oldest brother, Thomas Jefferson Evans, settled in Batesville, Ar, then Lawrence Co, Arkansas, After a short stay in Hot Springs Valley. Robert and his mother, Deborah were living with his sister Ellen Cash in late 1850.
Being farmers, (Robert filed for homestead in Clark County, Arkansas on two parcels of land totaling 240 acre in Alpine Township near the Caddo River sometime in 1857 and 1860. Robert's brother John Jr. had two oxen that were envied by many in Hot Springs Valley. Some offered to trade land for the oxen, he refused. John Jr., lived near and farmed with Robert until his death by 1870, leaving wife Tabitha Richie Evans and seven children. At one point John Jr. wanted to move on to Texas, but family lore has it, that Tabitha put her foot down, so they stayed in Clark County. John Jr. and Tabitha are both buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Alpine, Clark County, Ar.
Robert married Matilda Jane Pitts, January 4, 1860 in Clark County, Arkansas. Matilda was daughter of Isaac and Mary Tucker Pitts. After their marriage, Robert's mother Deborah and his brother David's four children, George W., Martha, John, and Francis lived with them.. Robert and Matilda had eleven children. Albert Wesley, Mary Ellen, Deborah Ann, Pinkney M. (Carroll), John, Isaac, Aaron Thomas, Robert David, Benjamin Franklin, Allen and George. Robert died about 1898, and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Alpine, Clark County Arkansas, along with Matilda. Their graves are on Evans Row, marked only with stones.
