The household of Mr. and Mrs. Adam MacKenzie of 848 East Wood street was was suddenly thrown into deep grief and consternation this morning at 8:30 o'clock by the death of two year old baby who drank a half cup of gasoline dying in less than five minutes after she swallowed the poisonous gas. The child had followed the mother upstairs and Into the room of an older sister who had been using the gasoline to clean a pair of gloves. Neither the mother or the sister noticed the babies movements until she was in the act of putting the cup back to its place and the death from the poisonous gases of the fluid swallowed so quickly that nothing could be done. Doctors were called at once but the child was dead when they arrived which was less than 10 minutes after the accident had occurred. The child had eaten breakfast several hours before and the stomach was comparatively empty and the gases entered immediately causing paralysis of the muscles of respiration. It is also corrosive in its effect, the blood running from the babies mouth. Mr. & Mrs. MacKenzie have been particularly unforunate in this direction, one of the children dying very suddenly about two years ago with a severe attack of the croup. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
