Alice Crawford, 80 Passed Away March 6
Alice Crawford was born December 6, 1916 to James George and Alice (Scott) Brooks in Lincoln, Nebraska. She passed away March 6, 1997 at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield at the age of 80.
Funeral service were held Monday March 10, 2 p.m. at the Greenfield United Methodist Church. Pastor Pat Stout officiated. Music was provided by Ardith Buckner, organist and Terry Buckner, vocalist.
Lisa Gray, Mark Shiller, Luke Crawford, Chuck Sirna, Roger Crawford, and Norbert Engles served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Wolfe, Leo Miller, Glenn Brown, Hugh Swoyer, Elbert Williams, Max Erbes, Irma Weber, Dick Porter, Marlan Garside and Eugene "Pat" Thompson. Serving as floral bearers were Don and Verna Johnston.
Interment was at the Greenfield Cemetery. Steen Funeral Home, Greenfield, handled arrangements.
Alice attended school in Fontanelle and graduated from high school in 1934. On January 21, 1935, she was united in marriage to George E. Crawford at the Presbyterian parsonage in Greenfield by Ware W. Wimberly. To this union five children were born, Robert, Carmen, George Dale, Sue, and Denise. Alice and George made their home in Greenfield their entire married life.
She was a homemaker and also helped with and drove a truck for their family trucking business. Alice liked being outdoors, was an avid fisherman, liked to go camping, enjoyed taking drives, always looking for deer to count; and she enjoyed spending winters in Texas and Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Paul Bliese; son Robert Allyne Crawford; infant daughter, Alice Denise; two grandchildren; a sister Ellen Westphal; and a brother in infancy, Paul Bliese Jr.
Surviving are her husband George, Greenfield; son George Dale Crawford and wife Sherilyn, Omaha, Nebraska; daughters Ann Sullivan and husband Pat Crestview, Florida. And Sue Sirna and husband Saverio Charles, Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Georgia Crawford, Greenfield; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Thompson and Maxine Perkins, both of Greenfield; other relatives and friends.
