Stephen Emmet Maddox was born in Winchester, Clark County, Missouri, September 20, 1859 and departed this life in Aztec, New Mexico November 10, 1936 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 21 days. He moved from Missouri to Denver, Colorado in the year 1892 and eleven years later came to San Juan County, New Mexico, where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr. Maddox never married but devoted his life to the care of his mother. He followed as an occupation agriculture and the development of fine fruits and vegetables. He was a man of high principles, was a firm believer in the life to come, and lived a life in keeping with those principles. He leaves to mourn his departure his only living brother, T. P. Maddox, together with many other relatives and the entire neighborhood as friends.
Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church Thursday afternoon, Rev. F. D. Painton pronouncing the last rites assisted by Rev. Risbel. Interment was made in the Aztec Cemetery under the direction of Hood Mortuary.
