In the 1871 minutes of this association, the committee of Deceased Ministers submitted the following report:
We, your Committee on Deceased Ministers, beg leave to make the following report: Dear brethren - Our Association has been heavily stricken since our last meeting; one of our venerable and much beloved ministers has fallen a victim to the monster Death - Elder C.V. Maddox is no more; and while we bow in humble submission to the dispensation of a kind Providence, we can only be sensible of the great loss our body has sustained in our pulpits and deliberative bodies. Not having sufficient data from which to make an obituary we submit this notice by extending our heartfelt sympathy to the family of our departed brother. - Letter to Ms. Pat Meador from Center for Baptist Historical Studies.
