GAS CAUSES DEATH
FORT MADISON MAN
John Carlson Found Unconscious in Chicago Boarding House--Death Thought to be Accident
John Carlson of this city was found Wednesday morning in a Chicago boarding house unconscious and died later at the cook county hospital in that city.
The deceased was a boilermaker and resided at 2820 Kinsley street Fort Madison, where he is survived by a wife and two little children. He has worked for the Santa Fe ever since the shops were built in this city, but has been in Chicago off and on for a year past inspecting boilers for the company. He expected to finish his present work there Saturday, April 11, and then be at home for awhile. He was found Wednesday morning in his room in a Chicago boarding house in an unconscious condition, with the gas turned on, and died a short time later at the hospital. It is generally believed by those who knew him that his death was purely accidental, the gas having been turned on accidentally.
Mr. Carlson was aged about thirty-eight years and was a member of Claypools Lodge No. 15, A.F. and A.M., and Potowonok Chapter No. 28, R.A.M. of this city.
