Mrs. Bertha Gunter Carter Hester, 85, of Sans Souci Community, Greenville, died Saturday (April 12, 2008) at Oakmont West Nursing Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Hester was born August 11, 1922, in Easley, S.C., to the late Luther Gunter and the late Nellie McGaha Gunter. She was educated in the Easley Schools. She retired in 1981 from Steel Heddle Mfg. Company. A member of Calvary First Baptist Church of Greenville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands George Austin Carter and the late Carrol Hester, brothers Bill and Dewey Gunter, sister Helen Sanders, step-daughters Helen Carter and Bobbie Sexton.
Surviving sons George Austin Carter, Jr. of Augusta, Kansas, Billy Joe Carter of Travelers Rest and John L. Carter of Taylors, S.C., sisters Ann Gunter of Greenville, Fay Floyd of Easley and Frances Sewell of Liberty, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Special thanks to Ann Gunter, her sister, and Joyce Pruitt, her granddaughter, for their special care.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Easley, by the Rev. Roger Plemmons. The family will see friends at Westville Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence.
