-- Mr. James Lavin Gainey, age 79, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at his home. Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Miller Rivers Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with full military honors will follow in the David's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 â€' 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 prior to the service at the funeral home.Mr. Gainey was born December 4, 1931 in Ruby, SC a son of the late John Wesley and Hattie Atkinson Gainey. He was a former employee of Hornwood, Inc. in Lilesville, NC and retired from Cheraw Dyeing and Finishing. Following his retirement, James was associated with Ted Vick Motor Company for 10 years. Mr. Gainey was a U.S. Army veteran with 26 years of service, having served two tours over seas and also in the Korean War. At the time of his discharge, Mr. Gainey had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. James was a faithful member of David's Grove Baptist Church where he served as an Usher. He was a man who never met a stranger, and always enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors, and sharing his fruits and vegetables with them. James loved his family very much and his grandchildren were his heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, J.C. Gainey and Willie Gainey; and by 2 sisters, Helen Boan and Dorothy Curtis.Surviving are his wife of 41 years: Willie Vaughn Gainey of the home; 3 daughters: Sharon (Vaden) Freeman of Chesterfield, SC, Debra Freeman of Florence, SC, and Melissa (Ted) Vick of Chesterfield, SC; 2 stepsons: Virgil (Rebekah) Adams of Wilkesboro, NC, and Wayne (Pam) Adams of Chesterfield, SC; 1 brother: Heyward Gainey of Shallotte, NC; 1 sister: Mary Gulledge of Ruby, SC; 9 grandchildren: Willow Grace Vick, Laurel Faith Vick, Carli Bryce Adams, Daniel Belk Adams, Crista Adams (Jackson) King, Evan Vaughn Adams, Brandon Michael Freeman, Hannah Carey Freeman, Logan Wilkes Freeman; 1 great-grandchild: Eleanor Gloria King.Memorials may be made to David's Grove Baptist Church, "Building Fund" c/o Diane Rayfield, 2256 Jackson Rd.
