Son of David Robertson & Elizabeth (Marsh) born about 1767 in Westfield, Essex Co., NJ. (Note: probably was not born before this because his parents were married Feb. 27, 1766 at Westfield Presbyterian Church in Essex Co.,NJ.) Joseph married Rachel Moore in 1786 in Alleghany Co., MD. They lived in Warren Co., OH. before coming to Clay Twp., Bartholomew Co., IN. about 1820.

They had 16 known children: Abigail (Josiah) Edwards & (Henry) Critser 1787-1863; John R. (Elizabeth) 1788-1871; Sarah (Joseph) Edwards 1792-1829; Nancy (Abram) Hoover 1793-1864; Hannah (William) Critser 1795-1858; Margaret (John) Yeley 1798-1886; Martha "Patsy" (Eli) Critser 1799-1858; William Moore (Elizabeth) 1802-1877; Joseph Benjamin (Agnes)&(Harriet) 1804-1897; Rachel (Johnathan) Ford 1805-1894; Rebecca (Samuel) Cowden 1806-1835; Ezra (Mary) 1807-1893; James (Lydia) 1809-1865; Hester "Hetty" (John) Conway 1811-??; Eleanor (William) Cowden 1812-??; Henry Francis (Lydia)(Leah)&(Nancy) 1813-1889.

Note: Joseph was actually buried at this site, which was on his land and NOT at the Robertson Family Cemetery where his wife Rachel is buried. There is no marker or any evidence of burial here now. However, the county surveyor says he was the first land-owner. His property was located on the NW corner of 25th Street (formerly St.Rd. 46) and 650E between Petersville and the junction of 25th St. and St.Rd. 9. There is a newspaper article written in 1877 that gives evidence that Joseph was buried here--see below:

Enon and Clifty Meeting Graveyard

Rachel Robertson, buried here [Clifty Meeting Graveyard, now Robertson Family Cemetery], was the widow of Joseph Robertson who is buried at [near] the Little Lutheran Church where he had lived the latter part of his life.

Also note, per Cris West, at the County Surveyor's office, later in 1853, a 3/4 acre graveyard (on NE corner) & a 1/2 acre where a church sat (on SE corner) was given to the Franklen Evangelical Lutheran Church. At some point, it was renamed Trinity Lutheran, and overall existed about 30 years.
