Came over on the "John of London" in 1638 as part of the Puritan colony led by Rev. Ezekiel Rogers. Among first settlers of Rowley, spring of 1639. Deacon of the Church 45 years. Selectman, Representative in the General Court 21 years. Large land holder, donated land for the Rowley Burial Ground. Had nine children with wife Anna (m. Aug. 22, 1626): Ezekiel, Anna Barker, Mary Hazeltine, Elizabeth Hazeltine, Faith Dowse, Joseph, Sarah (died young), Sarah Ellsworth and Priscilla (died young).
