SANFORD, NC - Marcus Cameron, Pharmacist, 77 of Sanford, NC, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Duke University Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; McBryde Cameron and Pearlie Thomas Cameron; two sisters, Eula C. Pipkin, Edith C. Swann; one brother, Anderson Cameron and one grandson, Tyler Oliver Hubbell.

A beloved Husband of 28 years to Gwen, also a Daddy, Paw Paw, Brother and an outstanding member of the community, Marcus Cameron will be sorely missed by many. Born and raised in the Barbecue community in Harnett County, he passed away Friday morning at Duke University Medical Center after a long battle of declining health.

After graduating Elon College with a B.S. in Biology, Marcus was drafted into the Army where he served in the Korean War in a M.A.S.H. hospital unit as a Pharmacist's Mate. Upon his return from active duty, he pursued and completed his Pharmacy degree from UNC Chapel Hill.

The owner of Jonesboro's Lee Drug Store, Marcus was an extraordinarily generous person, taking roles as doctor, advisor, Pharmacist, and friend to anyone in need. He was an active member of Jonesboro Presbyterian Church for 47 years, serving both as Deacon and Elder. He was also UNC Chapel Hill's biggest fan, attending every possible football and basketball game for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen Simpson Cameron of Sanford; sons, Marcus F. Cameron and wife Temple of Wilmington, NC, David Gordon Cameron and Grant Sterling Cameron both of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Terri Cameron Capps of Greenville, NC, Sherri Cameron Hubbell and husband Carl of Charlotte, NC; brother, Kenneth McBryde Cameron and wife Judy of Sanford, NC; sister, Hazel Arrington of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Jonathon Clingman Capps and Austin Cameron Hubbell both of Charlotte, NC.

A memorial service was held at Jonesboro Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. A visitation followed the service at the Jonesboro Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
