Adam Kiehl was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania 06 July 1823. In his youth he learned the carpenter trade and worked at it for several years. He then engaged in the peddling business and traveled over a large portion of the county gathering up marketing which he disposed at Pittsburgh. On 12 Feb 1846 he married Catherine Kunkle; they had 8 children. He served in the Civil war in Company E, 206th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was injured during the occupation of Richmond and was discharged 16 May 1865. After the war he worked at farm work until failing health compelled him to retire. He died in North Huntington Twp., Westmoreland County, of Bright's disease on Wednesday morning about 10 o'clock, March 30, aged 74 years, 8 months, and 24 days.
