Andreas Flach was born in Wurtemberg, Germany, the son and namesake of Andreas Flach and his wife, the former Anna Maria Schuler. He was 13 when he and his family came to America with a group of German immigrants aboard the English ship Speedwell, which debarked in Philadelphia, PA. The Flachs later came to present day Long Valley, NJ, then known as "German Valley", and settled in an area that would soon come to be called "Flockstown" as the family and their landholdings proliferated. Andreas married his wife, Margareta, sometime prior to 1757, and the couple had at least two children. He was 52 at the time of his death, predeceasing his wife by six years. His grave, which is located on the western side of the church ruins, is marked by a white sandstone stele bearing a German inscription. The work of noted German stonecutter John Solomon Teetzel, it features a simple, incised floral figure in its tympanum.
