The grave of Andreas Flach, patriarch of the Flach/Flock family of "Flockstown" in Morris County, NJ, is identified by a stout brown sandstone marker bearing the initials AF and a crudely lettered inscription in the German language. Born in Wurtemberg in 1712, he was among a group of his countrymen who sailed to America in the English ship Speedwell, which debarked in Philadelphia, PA, in 1749. Andreas and his wife, the former Anna Maria Schuler, later brought their family to New Jersey, where they settled in present day Long Valley, then known as "German Valley". A community leader and pillar of the Old Stone Union Church, now in ruins a few feet away, he died at age 66 during the latter years of the American Revolutionary War. His survivors included his widow, Anna Maria, who died 31 years later, and his son and namesake.
