Southern Aegis August 17, 1887:
Death of Miss Ella Hodges. Miss Ella, daughter of Mr. W.T. Hodges of Birmingham, died at her home in that city on August 13, 1887, of typhoid pneumonia. Age 17 years, four months and nineteen days. Services were held ath the residence of deceased on South Highlands at 9 o'clock Monday morning, and her remains were brought to Ashville in the evening for interment. Rev. J.A. Glenn, pastor the Baptist church, of which she was a consistent member, conducted the services. Text: Psalms 89:47 and Hosea 10:12. The funeral sermon was touching and impressive. Not one could deny the amiable character and sweet Christian disposition of Miss Ella. To know her was to admire her, and many were the eyes that were bedewed with tears on Monday evening. She was interred in the family plot in the cemetery. Our
deepest sympathies are exended to the stricken parent and sorrowing relatives and friends.
