Born Aug. 26, 1920, in Rowan County, to the late John D. and Ross [Rosa] Lyerly Davis, he was a retired machinist for Compton & Knowles of Mooresville. Mr. Davis was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II, and he was a member of Fair View United Methodist Church and the Mooresville Moose Lodge. Mr. Davis was married to Katherine Shue Hilton Davis, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include his stepdaughters, Mary Elizabeth Kipka of Mooresville and Barbara Bentley of Jamestown; sisters, Elva Fetner of Orlando, Fla., and Betty McKinnon and Jo Rita Haselden, both of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, James Edward Kipka, Jr. and Crystal Kipka, both of Mooresville, Katherine Amanda Kipka of Roanoke, Va., Scarlett Kipka Steinert of Appleton, Wis., Cindy Dannielly of Greensboro, and Mark Benley of Jamestown; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Monday, June 21, at Glenwood Memorial Park with Rev. Joanne Hull officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 403 E. Statesville Ave., Mooresville, NC 28115.
