My thanks to Find a Grave contributor Jean Voss, who confirmed that there is no marker for this grave and who found Ephraim's obituary in the Beloit Free Press:
"DIED. Tuesday's Daily. HAMLET -- Mr. E. R. Hamlet, aged 70 years, father of Mrs. W. H. Fairchild and Charles R., William and Jacob O. Hamlet, died a few minutes after midnight last night of pneumonia, induced by the grippe, at the home of his daughter. He had resided in Beloit since 1865, coming here from the state of Maine. He was generally in feeble health, although he was exceptionally well when attacked with the grippe about one week ago. His aged wife survives him. The funeral will take place at 3 o'clock Wednesday from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild on Locust street." From the obituary and cemetery records (which indicate burial on April 1, 1891, which was a Wednesday), I deduce that Ephraim Hamlet died in the early minutes of Tuesday, March 31 and that the obituary was printed in the Beloit Free Press later that same day.
