LAUREL — Al Jean Young

Al Jean Young, 78, of Meridian, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Rev. James Ruffin and Dr. John Temple will officiate.
Mrs. Young was a counselor for many years through the Meridian Public Schools, Lauderdale County Schools and she retired from Meridian Community College as an Allied Health Counselor. She was an active member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Young, parents, Algia and Nelda Holifield and a sister, Kay Walters.
Survivors include her son, Ricky Young and his wife Susan of Collinsville, daughter, Cindy Evans of Meridian, grandchildren, Josh Young of Collinsville, Matt Young and wife, Monica of Starkville, Savannah Stewart and husband, Wesley of Loxley, Ala., step-grandchildren, Natalie Saez of Newton, Lauren Saez of Virginia Beach, Va., great-grandchildren, Ethan Lamar Young, and Bradley James Stewart, step-mother, Esther Holifield of Laurel, sister, Janelle Stephens of Laurel, sister-in-law, Barbara Young of Gulf Shores, Ala., brother-in-law, Lavelle Walters of Laurel, a special family friend, Dr. Woodie Abraham, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ron Barham, Charlie Woodall, Sammie Culpepper, Richie McAlister, Delton Perry, Lavelle Walters, Sam Fulton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Halbrook, Dr. Woodie Abraham, Dr. Joel Callahan, Sr. and Dr. J. Reece Jones.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. John Halbrook and his staff at Anderson's Cancer Center.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Al Jean Young Scholarship Fund, c/o Kathy Brookshire, 910 Highway 19 North, Meridian, MS 39307.
