James Gallagher, of Franklin township, died at his home on Saturday, aged 77 years, 1 month and 6 days. He was found dead in his chair, and death was thought to be due to a stroke of apoplexy.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter, John, of Hilltown, Franklin Township; William, of Baltimore, and Mrs. Andrew Lochbaum, of Franklin Township.
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, interment at Flohr's church.
He was a brother of William B Gallagher, of this place.

The son of Samuel & Nancy (Kennedy) Gallagher and stepson of Lydia Gallagher, he married Elizabeth Ann Lauver November 21, 1848, in Adams County, Pennsylvania, and fathered John Andrew (b. 03/29/49), Nancy Catherine (b. 09/05/50 - married Andrew J. Lochbaum), George Washington (b. 05/30/52), James (b. @1853), Michael (b. @1856), Mary (b. @1858), Julia (b. @1859), son (b. 1860) [the previous five children do not appear in the 1860 census], and William H. (b. @1864). In 1860, he was a farmer living with his family in Straban Township, Adams County.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Chambersburg January 7, 1863, as a private with Battery C, 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (152nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his battery November 9, 1865.

In 1890, he lived in Franklin Township, Adams County, where he died at age 77-1-6.
