C.U. Smith Service Wednesday, P.M.; Burial at Ft. Cobb
Services were at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist church for C.U. Smith, 66, who died in a Carnegie hospital Monday. He had been in failing health the past 18 months.
Elder Floyd Griffin of Snyder, a nephew, conducted the services and he was assisted by Rev. W.F. Crow, Carnegie pastor. Burial was in the Fort Cobb cemetery, under direction of the Pitcher Funeral Home.
Clyde Ulan Smith was born at Telahoma, Tenn. July 22, 1888 and came with his parents to Texas in 1890. He was married to Laura Griffin at Denton, Texas, Oct. 15, 1905, to them eight children were born. The couple planned to celebrate their golden wedding this autumn.
The family came to Jackson county, Oklahoma in 1917 and to Caddo county in 1922. Mr. and Mrs. Smith came to Carnegie to make their home six years ago.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Laura Smith at the home; three daughters, Mrs N.E. McRee, Fort Worth; Mrs. George Tessmer, New York City; and Mrs. Vernon Ellison, Stockton, Calif; and five sons, Emory and Chet, Carnegie; Ed, Fort Cobb; Roy, Cement; and Vernon, Stockton. Also 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive.
All of the children were here for the funeral except Mrs. Ellison and Vernon Smith of Stockton.
