Death year taken from obituary.

Marie was orphaned at an early age. She married August Erler in 1867 in Berlin, Germany. They were the parents of Edmund, Clara, John, Rudolph, Richard, Mattie, and Alex.

Dec 27, 1906 - Carroll Times - (newspaper date is correct but does not match stone) Christmas with its cheer, joy and gladness became a day of sorrow, at the August Erler home of this city. Mrs. Erler had suffered of severe hemorrhages of the nose for some days, but these seemed not of a nature to cause alarm and therefore her death at 9 o'clock in the forenoon of Christmas day, was one to occasion surprise and sorrow among hosts of friends in this city who esteemed the departed for her warmhearted womanly qualities and her friendship for all, regardless of rank or station.

Departed, Marie Dieteh was born at Lenzen, near Perleberg, Prov. Brandenburg, Germany, on January 28, 1840. Orphaned at an early age she had to provide for her own support and came to the great German Capital, Berlin, where she supported herself by her own industry and efforts. It was there she became the wife of August Erler in 1867.

Of this union the following children were born: Edmund Erler, now of Denison, Iowa; Clara, Mrs. Louis Benson, Carroll, Iowa; Jno. Erler, Council Bluffs, Iowa: Rudolph Erler, Havre, Mont.; Richard, Glasgow, Mont.; Mattie, Mrs. C.B. Maynard, Carroll, Iowa; and Alex Erler, Milwaukee, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Erler came to Carroll in October 1882 and have resided here ever since. Mrs. Erler was in every sense a model help mate and in caring for her large family, gave evidence of those womanly qualities that have been so noted a factor in creating a home. Hers was a life of industry and devotion to duty but she found time for that practical charity and helpfulness towards those in trouble and need, that exalts the humblest life in the eyes of the Father above. Her kindness and neighborly spirit were not bounded by lines of race or creed. She asked no questions when extending hospitality or deeds of kindness. She often expressed herself that the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man were sufficient to link us all. She looked at the earthly life from this broad plane, and it is pleasing to think that her goodness has won her a place on the scroll of everlasting life.

The surviving ones here below groping along in the silent night can gather hope that with their dear departed they may at last view an endless day, that death is a door that leads to light. At the shadowed threshold of another world we can but offer our tribute of grief. Beyond its portals we can but be guided by the abstaining owners of faith.

The funeral occurs tomorrow at 2 p.m. conducted by Pastor Luebker of St. Paul's Lutheran church. We join the friends of the family in condolence.
