William was the son of August Erler and Marie Dieteh. He married Louise Winninger (1884 WI) on 22 July 1908 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He had tuberculosis.

March 13, 1919 - Carroll Times - William Alexander Erler, of Milwaukee, Wis., a son of August Erler of this city, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. George Benson, Tuesday morning.

He had lately disposed of his business in Milwaukee with the intention of making his home in this city, until he regained his health, which had been failing for the past two years. Last week he grew suddenly much worse, but was determined to reach the home of his sister, and arrived here Sunday morning. Death was due to tuberculosis.

Besides his father, he leaves his wife, four brothers and two sisters, Rudolph and Richard, of Havre, Mont.; John, of Council Bluffs; Edward of Denison; Mrs. C.H. Maynard of Sioux City; and Mrs. George Benson, of this city.

Mr. Erler lacked a day of being 37 years old at the time of his death. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30.
