Vear R. Ellis, 90, of Blackfoot passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, following surgery.
He was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Blackfoot, the son of Wilson Ellis and Sophronia Wolfley Ellis and the youngest of nine children.
He attended school in Riverside. He lived most of his life in the Riverside area with time served in World War II and a short time in California.
On April 2, 1941, he married Loraine Stander in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Eight children were born to this union. They had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
He farmed in the Blackfoot area for most of his life. Before farming he built homes in California and in Riverside. Vear and Loraine also built "The Ellis Market", later called Scotties Market, in Riverside in the early years of their marriage.
Vear was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including temple worker, door greeter and high counselor over extraction. Vear gave service to many in the community. He gleaned potatoes from the field each year and delivered to anyone he could think of. He was very talented at building toys for his children and grandchildren and loved to give the toys away. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and traveling.
