Gloria D. Alarcon

Gloria D. Alarcon passed away on November 13, 2010 in Las Cruces, NM at Memorial Medical Hospital. She was born on February 21, 1925 in Laredo, TX to Albert S. and Refugrio (Ramirez) Dalrymple.

Gloria met the love of her life in band class at Martin High School. She and Arturo married on January 7, 1944. They were married for 64 years. Arturo passed away on February 14, 2008.

Gloria worked Civil Service at Laredo Air Force Base where she retired from personal affairs and family services.

She loved bowling; both her and Arturo were instrumental in starting the Laredo Bowling Men's and Women's Associations. They were charter members and were the first city secretaries of each of their respective associations. They continued bowling when they moved to Alamogordo and bowled for close to 50 years.

Gloria and Arturo loved to travel. They visited many countries and traveled throughout the United States.

She is survived by her children, Gloria Ann, Sylvia, Art and his wife Theresa and their children, Michael, Andrew and Emily. She also leaves a sister, Grace D. Hastings; a brother, Louis Dalrymple; brother in law, Fernando Alarcon and his wife Aurora; sister in law, Mariette Dalrymple; and a niece who was raised like a sister, Viri Vela and her husband Amador. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband; a sister, Elmira Hufner; brothers, Albert and his wife Ernestina; Leopold and his wife Leonore; Peter and his wife Pilar; Frank Dalrymple; and brother in law, William Hastings.

Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Alamogordo. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010 by Estella Valle. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2010 with Father Bryant Hausfeld, Celebrant.

Interment will follow at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Art Alarcon, Michael Alarcon, Ken Gardner, Roman Martinez, Rod Pior and Paul Sena. Honorary Pallbearers will be Emily Alarcon, Fernando Alarcon Jr., Daniel Vela, Javier Vela, Sammy Silva and Andrew Alarcon.

The family will greet friends prior to the Rosary at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

The Alarcon family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral home to direct the funeral services.
