My mother-in-law

Florence R. Hughes, 88, of Eatontown, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 7, 2011. She was born in Long Branch and has resided in Eatontown all her life. Florence was a member of Eatontown Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls and served as an Advisory Board Member and Mother Advisor of Laurel Assembly No. 41. She then served for many years as Grand Deputy and Chairman of the Adult Grand Executive Committee of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in New Jersey. Florence was appointed to serve as Supreme Deputy in New Jersey and was elected Supreme Inspector and Member of the House of Gold on July 26, 1988. She was also a dedicated member of St. James Episcopal Church in Eatontown.

She is predeceased by her husband Matthew Thomas Hughes Sr., her son Matthew Thomas Hughes Jr. and her brother Ralph Rowland. Surviving is her daughter Margaret Torick of Eatontown, son Charles Hughes of Jackson, and daughter Patricia Lomasson and her husband Mark of Howell; also surviving is her brother Harry S. Rowland Jr. of Eatontown, as well as 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Monday April 11, 2011 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Braun Funeral Home, 106 Broad St. Eatontown. A funeral service will take place at St. James Episcopal Church in Eatontown at 10am, April 12, 2011. Memorial donations may be made in Florence's name to the St. James Episcopal Church 69 Broad St. Eatontown, NJ 07724 or to Project A.L.S, 3960 Broadway, Suite 420 New York, NY 10032.
