Robert J. Abel, 75, of Shelia Drive, a retired technical specialist, died of heart failure Sunday at a hotel in Farmersville, La.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Van Winkle Methodist Church with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation begins at noon today.
Mr. Abel was a Phoenix native. He retired in 1983 as a technical specialist for Eastmen (sic Eastman) Kodak. After retirement he worked for the State Department of Archives and History. He was a member of Van Winkle Methodist Church. He was elected by his church to the National Wesley Foundation of Methodist Churches. He was one of 1,000 members to serve as treasurer for his church. He was a Wesley Fellow and was elected as a lay delegate to the annual Methodist Church convention.
Survivors include: wife, Annie; daughter, Virginia Louise Abel Miller of Mendenhall; brothers, Roy K. Abel of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and James A. Abel of Lake Charles, La.; and a grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Van Winkle Methodist Church.
