WALNUT RIDGE — Winola Jean Jean, 84, of Walnut Ridge passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 25, 1927, at Alicia, the daughter of James C. "Jack" and Lola Ann Cooper Arnold, she was a member of the Hoxie United Methodist Church, Walnut Ridge Business and Professional Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Church Women United, Lawrence Memorial Auxiliary, Charles Chapter Order of the Easter Star and Geneva Burton Unit of Hoxie United Methodist Women.
She graduated from Walnut Ridge High School at as valedictorian in 1946, from Arkansas State College with a bachelor's degree in 1954 and master's degree in 1962. She taught at Counts School, Sedgwick, Clover Bend, Egypt and Hoxie, beginning in 1947 and retiring in 1983.
She was united in marriage to Elton C. Jean on Sept. 8, 1963, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Marvin Arnold, Keith Arnold, Lester Arnold and J.C. Arnold; and a sister, Elva Mae Arnold Owens Godwin.
Survivors include a sister, Mazie Alls of Walnut Ridge; five nephews, Dennis Alls, Don Alls, Doug Arnold, Steve Arnold and Jeffrey Arnold; four nieces, Phyllis Owens Smith, Pam Arnold Bradsher, Rita Alls Taylor and Joyce Arnold Davis; nine great-nieces and nephews; six great-great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hoxie Methodist Church with the Revs. Bonda Moyer and Bob McMillon officiating. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. till time of service at the church.
