Eleanor Grace Stevens Beymer, age 93 of Old Washington, died Thursday, April 14, 2011 having fought a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers.
Born June 9, 1917, to Charles and Maude Woodward Stevens, she was raised on a dairy farm on Route 22. She was a 1935 graduate of Cambridge High School and a 1936 graduate of Cameo Beauty College in Zanesville. For many years she owned and operated Princess Beauty Shop in Cambridge.
Eleanor was a member of Lambda Chi Omega sorority, Zeta chapter; Business and Professional Women; and the Old Washington Presbyterian Church where she held various offices and taught Sunday School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband and Love of her Life, Bruce Beymer; her son, Robert Beymer; two sisters, Glenna Willis and Hazel Scott; and one brother, John Thomas Stevens. She is survived by a niece, Marie (Dwight) Thomas of Columbia, SC and four nephews, Tom (Cathy) Stevens of Cambridge, Terry (Janice) Scott of Salesville, Charles (Lynne) Stevens of Hillsboro, and Craig (Marilyn) Willis of Lock Haven, PA.
Eleanor was the last survivor of the Stevens siblings as well as the last person in the area to carry the Beymer family name. The Beymers were the original founding fathers of Old Washington and she carefully preserved their early documents and journals - donating them to the Guernsey County Genealogical Society.
She will be remembered as kind, loving, strong-willed, Christian woman who greatly valued her faith, family and friends.
In keeping with her wishes, no calling hours will be observed. Graveside services will be held at Guernsey Memory Gardens on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 1 :00 PM.
