JAMES McCLOSKEY DEAD AT 81

Death Came Monday at Home of Son, W. W. McCloskey, Near Plevna.

James McCloskey, 81 years old, a native of Ireland, but a resident of Knox County about sixty years, died Monday at the home of his son, W. W. McCloskey, northwest of Plevna, after an illness of kidney trouble and old age since August.

Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son by Rev. L. M. Cooper of Knox City, and burial was in the Mt. Salem cemetery near there.

He is survived by eight children: Mrs. James Taylor of Hood River, Ore.; Mrs. Raleigh Smith of Knox City; Mrs. Mike Wavrek and Mrs. Ella McCauley of Quincy; Mrs. C. W. Veal and J. C. McCloskey in Colorado; J. P. McCloskey of Edina, and W. W. McCloskey of near Plevna. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren and two half sisters, Mrs. ellen Kimball and Mrs. Frank Edwards, both of near Hedge City.

Mr. McCloskey was born in 1841 at Dublin, Ireland. He came to the United States when 3 years old and lived at Quincy until he was 19 years old, when he came to Knox County and worked for several years for Willis Anderson near Plevna. He later located on a farm south of Plevna, where he engaged in farming and selling and buying stock, and where he lived until twelve years ago, when after the death of his wife, he went to live with the son at whose home he died.

He was married fifty-three years ago to Miss Lucinda Tanksley of Plevna, and to them were born ten children, those mentioned and one child who died in infancy, and Joe McCloskey who died about six months ago.
