Daughter of James and Julia Ann McReynolds McWherter. Melissa may have been adopted by Phillip McCloskey as in 1870 census and on marriage record she is using McCloskey as maiden name. Married William L. Pulse 13 DEC 1871 in Knox County, Missouri.

ANOTHER OLD SETTLER DEAD

Mrs. Malissa [sic] Pulse, 80, Came to This County When About 8 Years Old.

Mrs. Malissa [sic] Pulse, 80 years old, died Friday morning at the home of her son, John Pulse, with whom she had made her home on the Bob Keith farm three-forths of a mile east of Hedge City. She had been sick in bed the last six months following a paralytic stroke.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Christian Church in Plevna by the Rev. J. S. Carney of Hedge City. Burial was in the Hickman cemetery, west of Plevna, beside the grave of Mrs. Pulse's husband, William Pulse, who died about ten years ago.

Besides the son at whose home death came, Mrs. Pulse leaves another son, Ed Pulse, of northeast of Hedge City and a sister, Mrs. Vin Edwards, of Hedge City.

"Aunt Malissa" [sic] Pulse, as she was called by those who knew her, was born in Ohio eighty years ago this month, and came to Knox County when about 8 years old.
