First husband was George Washington Payne Nicholson. They had a daughter Charlotte Taylor Nicholson. Caroline was an avid reader and attended many Chautauqua summer educational meetings. She owned the Nicholson Bakery for many years. In 1904 Caroline divorced and married Murray Payne MacKay. They homesteaded in Cuba for several years. At 83 years old she finished her 100 page autobiography "Nanny Ki" as a gift to her six grandchildren.
