Died in automobile-truck collision.

Dr.Rowland had been editor of the Richmond Christian Advocate for 16 years,serving as its ninth editor.

Born at Rowland,North Carolina and received his early education at Weaver College,Weaverville,North Carolina.He later attended Randolph-Macon College before pursuing further studies at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Dr.Rowland was president of Southern Methodist Press Association for two terms,a delegate to the last four general conferencesof the Southern Methodist Church,a author of several travel books and novels.He served as pastor of Laurel Street Methodist Church in Richmond,the Park Place Methodist Church of Norfolk and the Rivermont Avenue Methdoist Church of Lynchburg.

Survived by his wife who was also hurt in the collision and two sons,Claude Rogers Rowland of New York and Joseph Stuart Rowland of Richmond,a student at Thomas Jefferson High School;one daughter Mrs.Ida Elizabeth Rowland Little of New York City.One sister,Mrs.Julia Johnson of Asheville,North Carolina.
