He was born Dec. 1, 1926 at St. Cloud, son of the late Killian and Elfrieda (Dreifuerst) Butz.
He attended St. Cloud Catholic Grade School, New Holstein, and Goodrich High School, Fond du Lac.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was married to the former Mary Klinzig at St. Cloud on Oct. 15, 1949. She preceded him in death in 1977.
The couple resided in St. Cloud all their married life where he owned Butz Oil Company.
He was a member of St. Cloud Catholic Church, St. Cloud American Legion Post, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fond du Lac, director of State Bank of St. Cloud, a member of St. Cloud Hunting and Fishing Club, St. Cloud Athletic Club, and former member and assistant fire chief of the St. Cloud Fire Dept.
He is survived by two sons, Terry of St. Cloud and Danny at home; three daughters, Mrs. Al (Rose) Mueller of Marytown, Pat Butz of Kiel, and Sandy Butz, at home; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Butz of St. Cloud and Vernon Butz of Kewaskum.
He is also preceded by one sister, one brother and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were St. Cloud Catholic Church, Father Daniel Yaniak, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
