Amory - James Allen Brooks, 80, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996 at the Gilmore Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 9, 1916, in Memphis. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Memphis and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed by the City of Memphis in the Light, Gas and Water Division before moving to Amory in 1947. He was employed by the City of Amory and later by the Monroe County Electric Power Association, retiring as manager after 35 years. After retiring he was manager of the Pro Shop at the Amory Golf Club. He was a Catholic and a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Amory Golf Club.

Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with the Rev. Pat Ludlam officiating. Burial was in the Hatley Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pullen Brooks of Amory; one son, James Allen Brooks Jr., and his wife, Janey, of Winston Salem, N.C.; three daughters, Carol Brooks of Memphis, Lynn B. Ellis and her husband, Wilson, of Belden, and Judy B. Marett and her husband, Larry of Amory; five grandchildren, Mandi M. Stanley, Kent and Allen Marett, Rachel M. Kenney and Maggie Mason; two step-grandchildren, Betsy and Brian Ellis; one great-grandchild, Alison Kenney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Francis Brooks and Alice Brown Brooks and a brother, Charles Francis Brooks, Jr.

Pallbearers were Pete Miller, Bud Cother, Clovis "Punk" Ford, Jack N. Thomas, Ralph Baker, David Randle, Lester Pickle, Lew Currance and Gary Johnson...Amory Advertiser
