He was born Dec. 19, 1884 (gravestone says 1888) in Ozark, Arkansas to William Houston Martin and Martha E. Pierce Martin. His parents were both born in Rome, Georgia. Mr. Martin was a Car Builder Helper for I&GN Railroad. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dorothy Mae Martin; brothers, Ira B. Martin, and Grover Jay Martin; and sisters, Nellie Grace Martin, and Alice Ruby Martin. He was survived by his wife, Addie Hazlitt Martin; daughter, Patricia Schroeder; sister, Mary Maude Martin; brother, Henry Grady Martin; step-daughters, Blanche Harding Reagan, and Mozelle Harding Skidmore; and step-sons, Fred Harding, and Oslar Harding.
