Funeral services for James Potts Ardrey, 77, who died at his home in Providence township Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness, were held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Harrison Wells Funeral Home in Monroe.

Mr. Ardrey was born March 5, 1866, and spent most of his life in the vicinity of his birthplace. He attended old Trinity College, and took an active part in the affairs of the community. At the time of his death, he was teacher of the Men's Class at the Harrison Methodist Church.

He was twice married, his first wife being the former Miss Sallie Rone. Of this marriage, the following children survive: Lloyd E. Ardrey of Pineville; Mrs. M. A. Coble of Burlington; Mrs. J. L. Rea of Wenona; Mrs. Bill Witherington of Orlando, Fla., and Miss Estelle Ardrey of Durham.

His second wife was Miss Blanche Rone, who survives, as do the following children: Mrs. Glenn Brown of Charlotte; Mrs. R. E. Hughs of Cedar Grove; L. L. Ardrey of Rock Hill, S. C.; Lt. J. P. Ardrey of Chanute Field, Ill.; W. M. Ardrey of Salisbury; Mrs. J. A. Kell of Charlotte; S. R. Ardrey of Tuckasiegee (sic), and Mrs. L. J. Brassfield of Pineville.

Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. W. H. Crowell of Whiteville; three half-sisters, Mrs. J. L. Spratt, Mrs. M. M. Tuttle, and Mrs. Alice Stough; and two half-brothers, R. H. Ardrey, and Col. J. E. Ardrey.
